And while the average clearance section has plenty of items for under $10, the cheap stuff isn’t all you can find. Seek clearance for electronics on everything from cell phone cases to televisions. And expect to see big-name brands in the clearance toy section, including higher-priced items like hoverboards and Little Tikes, play equipment.

Walmart’s pricing system digitally updates clearance prices, regardless of whether a store associate places the updated yellow clearance tag on the item. And there are thousands of clearance prices that are active at any time in any store. Therefore, the most up-to-date yellow clearance stickers are not always up-to-date on all products.
That means there’s a bit of an Easter egg hunt waiting for you in any Walmart clearance aisle.
In my experience, at least one in 10 clearance items in my Walmart stores is misbranded. Once I find a poorly marked clearance item, I often discover a gold mine because it’s not just about that item. The item often represents an entire section that has not been manually marked down to reflect the current price. The day I found this Yankee Candle deal for $6.04, all the candles around it were also cheaper than marked.
To find the hidden Walmart authorization, use the “check a price” feature in the Walmart app.
The Walmart app has a price scanning feature that allows you to check the price of any item in the store by scanning its barcode. You must have your location services turned on or connected to Wi-Fi in the store to get accurate prices for the store you are in.
The price you see in the app is the price that will sound at checkout, period. This Mainstays shower caddy had a yellow sale tag for $4, but when I scanned to check the price, it turned out to be only $1.
When the price in the app is lower than the yellow tag price, that’s Walmart’s hidden clearance. Now keep scanning!

TIP: Sometimes when you check Walmart clearance prices, you may find one with a higher price than marked. If this happens, be sure to tell the cashier at checkout because it will require a manual price reduction to match the price on the sticker.

The last time I shopped on Walmart clearance in my store, I found numerous $5 items marked with a fixed price of $0.50, a whopping 90% savings. I also found small jar candles that were regularly $5 off to $0.25, or 95% off.
If your store has a dedicated clearance section, the incredibly low prices can make you feel like you’re shopping at a thrift store, not Walmart. Toward the end of the sale, leftover toys will be 90% off. But the selection by then is very scarce. Although you can get toys at 90% off, I vote to buy them at 75% off so you have a wider selection.

As with most retailers’ post-holiday clearance schedules, Walmart sells last season’s decor for at least 50% off starting the day after the holidays. And the discounts go up from there.

Walmart’s holiday sale starts at 50% off on December 26 and will increase up to 75% off between December 31 and January 10. Eventually, around January 11, the Christmas sale will hit 90% off.
Plus, you’ll get great deals on holiday-related items beyond decorations. For the past several years, I have used Valentine’s Day candy for Easter. I like to try to grab the items that don’t look so festive so I can reuse them.
Walmart’s holiday sale can also be a bit unconventional. The Halloween 2021 sale featured wet brushes featuring Disney villains (see all active Disney deals). At first glance, you would never think of scanning these items, but sure enough, they were included.
TIP: Sometimes it will even find the vacation authorization before the vacation, so be sure to use that scan tool. In November 2021, I found an Elf on the Shelf board game near this season’s toy section. Its price was marked as $31.52, but it scanned in at $15.88!
